Composite Lay-up-The R&D organization continues to improve production manufacturing methods for advanced composite acoustic structures. Current efforts are focused on extending service life. Shown at right is a composite, compound DynaRohr panel.
Composite Sandwich Repairs-The development of user-friendly (on-wing, low-temp. cure, extended shelf-life) repairs for panels, as shown on the left, are integral to prolonging and maintaining the life of composite structures.

Hollow Hat Composites-Damage tolerant, lightweight hollow hat structures are being developed, which require minimal tooling to help reduce fabrication costs. This process co-cures the stiffeners and the laminate skin in a single manufacturing step. The first application is shown above for a large engine fan cowl door.

Thermoplastics-The R&D organization has worked to incorporate advanced thermoplastic materials into new designs such as the access door above. These materials offer improved damage tolerance over thermosets with superior shelf-life.
