Advanced Design
The Research and Development organization retains a full time engineering staff for conducting advanced design studies. This group focuses on applying technology to new product designs and supports the marketing organization in preparing new business proposals. Designers employ both 3D digital databases and simple mock-ups, such as the one shown at right, to help present their ideas and resolve technical challenges.
As new concepts for products mature, the advanced design group creates test models for verification of concept performance in the Aerostructures Group's test facilities. In the picture shown at left, an early version of the Boeing 717 thrust reverser is checked to determine the reverse thrust efflux pattern.
