Fabrication of advanced aerospace structures often requires the introduction of new manufacturing methods. The Aerostructures Group has developed and implemented several new manufacturing processes in recent years. Foremost is our ability to diffusion bond titanium honeycomb core to thin titanium face sheets so as to create a sandwich panel structure, a process we call Liquid Interface Diffusion (LID) bonding. Another recent process development has allowed us to superplastic form complex 360 degree nozzle structures as a single component. Our latest composite manufacturing advancement allows us to cocure hollow hat stiffeners to a composite skin using little to know expendable tooling.
